I return to the hospital for a check-up. Freddie drives me there and stays in the waiting room.

‘I don’t miss this place,’ he says as he sits in the chair that he spent so many nights sleeping in while I was in the ICU.

After my brain scan I get a brief consultation with a doctor that I have not seen previously. He asks about my co-ordination and my speech and my memories that haven’t yet returned, and I tell him as much as I can, mentioning that we will be moving house very soon. It’s suggested that I register with a new GP as soon as possible and change my address so that I can get my results once the scans have been analysed. He mentions that hypnotherapy might be useful, and I smile and tell him that I’m OK, thanks.
